The U.S. Commercial Permit & Project Source Index is DibDirt's public reference map of official permit, plan-review, project-registration, procurement, public-works, and construction-bid sources that can reveal commercial project activity.

It is generated from the same source registry DibDirt uses to manage its research network. The public index intentionally does not expose DibDirt's adapters, API endpoints, filtering rules, crawl methods, scoring logic, or normalization system.

How to read the status

• Active source: verified for current use in DibDirt's public-source network.
• Partial / qualified: useful source with a known access, classification, or coverage limitation that requires guarded interpretation.
• Researched source: official source documented in DibDirt's research map but not represented here as active production coverage.

Current registry: 31 active, 4 partial/qualified, and 17 researched sources. Status can change as agencies replace systems, alter access, or improve public data.

What this index can and cannot prove

An official public record can establish that a permit, project, registration, plan review, solicitation, or public construction record exists. Depending on the jurisdiction, it may also provide dates, address, scope, owner, contractor, design team, or total project value.

It does not automatically prove that a specific HVAC, plumbing, or electrical subcontract is currently open, unawarded, or worth a particular amount. DibDirt keeps those unknowns separate from verified source facts.

Why the source landscape is fragmented

There is no single U.S. commercial-permit database. Some states run statewide plan-review or procurement systems, while local governments handle most permits elsewhere. This is why commercial project discovery requires a source map, not one search box.
